Handmade Holidays

If you are one of my children look away now. I mean it......ok. I made good progress today and I am counting it toward my Handmade post because, well, it's handmade.  I had taken a personal day from work to be here for the plasterer and decided to really cram on getting these finished, or as close to finished as I could get.  I was so focused that I completely forgot that tonight was our Christmas dinner party at work until one of my co-workers called to remind me that we were car pooling.  At first I had absolutely no idea what she was talking about. Car pooling?  Oh yeah! dinner tonight, and I needed a shower and had just enought time to get ready.  Casting one last longing look at my project, because I was really into it you know? I showered and got ready, slipped some shoes on and ran out the door.  And now you are about to learn something about me that you didn't know.  When I am focused on something... I mean really focused, I don't pay attention to anything else.   I mean, sometimes I can't hear when people speak to me when my attention is elsewhere.

Which explains how I could get to the restaurant, and not notice that I was wearing two completely different shoes until I went to the ladies room and happened to look down at my feet.  Yeah. you would think I would notice one closed toe shoe and one open toe. At least they were the same color.  Kind of.

Sometimes I'm a little absent minded.  Sheesh.
Take my mind off this please. Share your handmade or thrifted holiday gift or decoration below.  And check your shoes, I've found it comes in handy sometimes.

  1. That's the BEST laugh I've had in a loooong time!! O, Kathy...I thought i was the only one that did that. When I am really into something, I don't hear the phone, people talking to me, I forget to check what is cooking in the oven..and once, when I was working, I got there one day and had a brown shoe on one foot..a black one on the other. Since I worked in an office, I just took my shoes off for the entire day!!
What IN THE WORLD did YOU do??
    haaaaa...aaahhhhaaaa so so funny.

NOW..I had NO idea you were doing a pinwheel quilt. I thought you were doing a plain and simple 9 patch. O, this is going to be beautiful. Now, you have me wanting to do one!! You are such an inspiration to me...and I don't believe I have EVER know anyone that stayed as busy as you do...and you get so much done! Whew...woman..you wear me to a frazzle !!
    :O)

  5. LOL!!!!! I have not done that, but I have gone somewhere with two different earrings in....not on purpose.

  6. Kathy,
This really made me laugh out loud!!!! You crack me up, but honestly I totally can relate. Being in the zone I sometimes I have to go out, and often I look down to see what I am wearing. I much prefer staying in the middle of a project and enjoying the zone of joyful creating.

I hope you had a nice dinner. Knowing how much you are admired, don't be surprised if your coworkers show up with two different shoes on...you might just start a new trend.

    Karen

    P.S. your quilt looks stunning.

  12. Oh bless your heart Kathy! You are certainly in good company. When I worked in an office I always bought the same shoe in two colors (black and brown). I happened to look down one day and noticed that I had one brown and one black on. :o)
Your pinwheel quilt is coming along so beautifully! I am making one too only you are way ahead of my process! I am still putting the pinwheels together.
    Have a great day!

  15. I get all 'caught up' in something and can't hear things too! If I'm into it ...that's IT. LOL So I totally know what you mean. Uh, but the shoes. Now that's funny! And a picture too. Awesome! ;-)

  16. Oh my gosh! I have done the exact same thing! When my kids were younger, I was so excited to get a night out at the quilt store, I slipped on my shoes and rushed out the door. It wasn't till later, much later, I noticed they were different shoes, and one was open-toed and one wasn't. I thought I was the only one. We should form a support group. Thanks for the laugh. Mona

  17. Hello Kathy~I've just strolled in for my first visit...I've enjoyed taking a peek at your past posts. You've got so many wonderful DIY ideas. Your blog is so beautifully inviting.
We share similar taste for so many of the same design elements.

As fall came to a close I looked forward to winter (that's fast approaching), bringing a festive inspiration for trimming and baking.
Don't you love the aroma that fills the air during this season?
My cat also appreciates the evergreens and an occasional ping pong toss of my ornaments...

I thought I was the only one suffering with the *PAUSE* in menopause, it's nice to know I'm in good company. Thanks for the shoe mishap chuckle.

I've bookmarked you in my favs.
I look forward to coming by your charming blog again.
Come by for a visit. Your company would be nice.

    Sweet wishes,
    Sara

  18. Clarence and I thank you for the laughs. Clarence wants to know if they had the same height heel? ;-)

Tell Earl thanks for the haiku. It was scathingly brilliant.

  19. Oh, I think you have me beat! My biggest faux pas was playing the piano at church with mismatched shoes - one was navy and one was black - but they were nearly alike. Both had closed toes and the same heels. Your dilemna made for a good laugh. I'd like to hear what happened after you discovered your mistake! ~Adrienne~

  24. LOL! Kathy, your first sentence made chuckle! LOL! If I was one of your children and I read that you can bet I'd be DYING to read it, LOL!

Oh! Then top it off with the story about the shoes! LOL! I've done that with socks before...luckily they were both dark one navy and one black so no one really noticed but me! I can get that way, too! Thanks for the chuckle... I needed it!

  31. Oh Kathy, I can see grabbing two different colors but those must be pretty comfy shoes not to notice the draft on one set of toes!

Don't feel bad, I ran out of the house in my hubby's tennis shoes one day. Didn't bother me, but the pair I left for him had pink ties!
    Hugs,
    Dawn
